Inkjet Printing Technologies

Our inkjet coders use Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) technology or Piezoelectric technology. The ones that use Hewlett Packard® and Funai® cartridges are the TIJ type, while the Trident® systems that use ink bottles are piezoelectric.

Hewlett Packard®

Hewlett Packard

These TIJ printheads use HP® cartridges. The main features of this technology are:

  • High print resolutions (up to 900dpi) that produce a very sharp and high quality print image
  • Amazing print speeds up to 400m/min
  • Print height up to 12,5mm but you can reach 100mm by combining up to 8 cartridges in the same printhead
  • Uses 42mL cartridges (usually)
  • Two independent and redundant rows of nozzles per cartridge (A and B)
  • Smart cartridges: The controller can automatically detect the ink type and the remaining amount of ink
  • Allows printing at a maximum distance of 5mm from the product
  • Maintenance-free: No clogging, changing the cartridge is like having a new printhead
  • Many different ink type for different surfaces, even for less absorbent ones

Funai®

Funai

These TIJ printheads use Funai® cartridges, previously known as Lexmark. The main features of this technology are:

  • High print resolutions (up to 900dpi) that produce a very sharp and high quality print image
  • Amazing print speeds up to 400m/min
  • Print height up to 12,5mm but you can reach 100mm by combining up to 8 cartridges in the same printhead
  • Uses 33mL cartridges (usually)
  • Two independent and redundant rows of nozzles per cartridge (A and B)
  • Smart cartridges: The controller can automatically detect the ink type and the remaining amount of ink
  • Allows printing at a maximum distance of 10mm from the product
  • Maintenance-free: No clogging, changing the cartridge is like having a new printhead

Trident®

Trident

These piezoelectric printheads with Trident® technology use ink bottles. The main features of this technology are:

  • Horizontal print resolution up to 300dpi (192dpi vertical) for a sharp print image
  • Print speeds up to 200m/min
  • Allows print heights up to 50mm or 100mm with a single printhead
  • 500mL ink bottles for less stops to replace ink (approximately 10x more ink than the cartridges)
  • Now also available in 1L bottles
  • More economic ink
  • Allows printing at a maximum distance of 5mm from the product

Xaar®

Xaar

These piezoelectric printheads with Xaar® technology use ink bottles. The main features of this technology are:

  • Horizontal print resolution up to 360dpi (180dpi vertical) for a sharp print image
  • Allows print heights up to 71mm with a single printhead
  • 500mL ink bottles for less stops to replace ink (approximately 10x more ink than the cartridges)
  • More economic ink
  • Good for gray-scale printing
